I stood before a vast tree in a barren, desert waste,
it was so old, so gnarled and bent,
so very ancient
yet so awe inspiring, magnificent.
No doubt that in its youth it knew the vibrancy of color
strength and beauty its lifes sap filled with singing energy
yearning for life and space-to expand its girth
sending eager thrusting roots down into the dark nourishing earth.
I seemed to read in its stark form
many a battle won 'gainst raging storm.
Again and again over time ceaselessly by mighty winds assailed
yet it had prevailed and prevailed
those winds endeavoring it from the clinging sands to pluck
and how often o'er the years by fierce lightning struck.
O what a grand tale of endurance it told
this simple ancient tree, an epic of enduring faith in its creator and anchored in loves mould.
What a glorious message and symbol for man adrift from his roots, adrift in the waters of sorrow and sufferings
creating his own chains and stings.
